LLBO Early Childhood holds Nanda-Gikendan Event
On a smoldering Thursday evening, the Nanda-gikendan event commenced at the Leech Lake Early Childhood facility in Cass Lake. This events purpose was to accentuate the Megwayaak Project and Farm to Early Care initiative and its transformation into a celebration of food, culture and community revitalization.
The 2nd annual Nanda-gikendan featured knowledgeable demonstrators along the Megwayaak trail and filled the air with laughter, language and enchantment. The event allowed our families and community members access to knowledge, skills and traditional values that have been broken or forgotten over the years and to help reestablish the intergenerational passing of knowledge.
Please enjoy this short clip put together by our videographer, Vince Johnson, and look forward to a finalized version to come.
Miigwech to all collaborating partners at the Leech Lake Early Childhood Program and a special chi-miigwech to our demonstrations: Andreas Nordrum, Jasmin Larson, Jeff Harper, Lucas Bratvold, Michelle Marion, Sharon & Shirley Nordrum, Tami Jackson, Tre Shaun Neadeau, Veronica Bratvold and accompanying family members. Last but not least a special miigwech to our summer youth worker from the Leech Lake Boys & Girls Club, Corey Madigan.
